Our Story/Community

Betty Ann Sharp and Jim Ellis have owned and operated Bearly Read books since 2007. They bring a diverse background in English, Education, Technology, Entrepreneurship, Nature, and writing.  We will happily assist you in finding any books that you may be looking for. If we don’t have it we will happily add your book to our list of books to watch for, and we will call you if we find it.

Below is a video of our TV commercial from 2011.

Since 2013,  Bearly Read Books along with Betty Ann and Jim have been a sponsor of WBUR’s reading of the A Christmas Carol by the on-air talent for the benefit of Rosie’s place.  And in addition, started the tradition of every year providing a unique copy of A Chirstmas Carol to be signed by the readers and auctioned to raise additional money for the charity.

Bearly Read Books along with Betty Ann and Jim have supported SMILE Mass an organization dedicated to helping families raising children or adults with disabilities enjoy happy, healthy memories through vacation and recreation experiences.  As part of our support, we have served as the bib pickup for the 5k run/walk.

Going back to when Dave and Jane owned the store, Bearly Read Books has supported the local humane society, Buddy Dog Humane Society, also located in Sudbury. Just a mile east of Bearly Read Books on Route 20 they are a short drive away.

Bearly Read Books was started in 1988 by Dave and Jane Van Buskirk.  Dave passed away in 2002.  Jane continued to run the store until she retired in 2007.
